Virginia Charlene Woody, 84, of Duncan, Oklahoma passed away unexpectedly early morning on May 28, 2019 in Country Club Care, Duncan.
Funeral Services will be held at 2:00pm Friday May 31, 2019 at Don Grantham Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Randy Southerland officiating. Interment will follow at Duncan Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday May 30 from 5:00 to 7:00pm.
Charlene was born on Oct. 24, 1934 west of Duncan to Sidney and Suda Mae (Maddox) Umsted. She attended Empire School. She married Willis Leroy Woody on Sept. 27, 1953. He preceded her in death on April 1, 2010.
Charlene worked for Southwestern Bell for 30 years.
She loved visiting with people and never met a stranger. Charlene made close friends with her co-workers at the phone company. As they retired they met once a month for breakfast and always had a great time.
Charlene was crazy about Elvis Presley all of her life. She and Leroy attended many concerts, and she could whistle louder than anyone! She had many of his records and also collected all 33 of his movies.
Leroy and Charlene loved visiting the Baptist Children's Homes in Oklahoma City and later adopted their son Douglas.
Survivors include her son Douglas Woody and his wife Jennifer; grandchildren Reuben, Patrick, Tabitha, Dallas, Quincy and Thaddeus and step-grandchildren Josiah, Ellora and David and his wife Alison. Charlene is also survived by a brother Lee Umsted and his wife Doris; a special niece Rita Harms and her husband Allen and many more nieces and nephews, who thought she was very special; and other loving family members.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; a sister Flora Adkins; and two brothers Marvin Umsted and Floyd Umsted.
Pallbearers will be: Adam Clifton, David Denham, Larry Howard, Steve Neal, Malcolm Talbot and Reuben Woody. Honorary Bearers are: Kyle Allen, Harrison Talbot, Dallas Woody, Quincy Woody, Thaddeus Woody and Patrick Woody.
