Shirlee Mae (Carlson) Hollinsworth, 82, of Duncan, Oklahoma passed to her heavenly resting place on Sunday, July 15, 2018 at the Ten Oaks Assisted Living Center in Lawton, Oklahoma.
Her funeral service will be at 10:30 AM Friday, July 20, 2018 at Don Grantham Funeral Home Chapel with the Reverend Bill Boles officiating. Interment will follow at 2:00 PM at Fort Sill National Cemetery, Elgin, Oklahoma. Funeral services are under the direction of Don Grantham Funeral Home.
The family will visit with friends at the funeral home Thursday, July 19 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM.
Shirlee Mae Carlson was born on April 11, 1936 in Portal, North Dakota to Fred Carlson and Stina (Lee) Carlson Schmeekle. Shirlee attended school in Stoneham, Colorado and graduated high school in 1954. She attended college at Northeastern Junior College in Sterling, Colorado. She married Jack Hollinsworth on April 25, 1958 in San Diego, California.
Shirlee was a homemaker most of her life. She was a proud military wife and lived in several different places such as Colorado, California, Virginia, the Philippines, Washington, and Hawaii. Shirlee was active in her children’s activities when they were growing up. She was a den mother for Girl Scouts and a sports mom for all her children. She ran a teen club in Hawaii and was chauffeur to many of her friends children. She was a member of the Comanche Homemakers Club. One of her biggest accomplishment was when the story she wrote, about her life, won an award from Oklahoma State University.
She enjoyed her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Shirlee is survived by her loving husband of sixty years, Jack E. Hollinsworth of the home; her daughters, Vicki and her husband Brian Ray of Florida; Julie Pennington of Lawton, Oklahoma; her sons, Jackie Hollinsworth of Aberdeen, South Dakota, Larry Hollinsworth of El Paso, Texas; ten grandchildren; six great grandchildren; her brothers, Ray Carlson of Oregon, Harold Carlson and Melvin Carlson of Stoneham, Colorado.
Shirlee was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Steven Ray Hollinsworth; seven sisters, Gladys, Evelyn, Myrt, Marin, Esther and Vera; and a brother, Art Carlson.
Her grandchildren will serve as pallbearers for her service.
