February 17, 1927 ~ June 24, 2018 (age 91)
Ross A. Luttrell Jr., 91, of Duncan passed away peacefully Sunday, June 24, 2018 at the Veterans Center in Lawton, Oklahoma with his children by his side.
A graveside service with military honors provided by the Stephens County Combined Honor Guard will be held on Wednesday, June 27 at 10:00 AM at Duncan Cemetery with Rev. Bill Boles officiating and under the direction of Don Grantham Funeral Home.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday, June 26 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM.
Ross Albert Luttrell Jr. was born on February 17, 1927 to Ross Albert Luttrell Sr. and Louvenia (Turner) Luttrell in Corryton, Tennessee.
He had eight siblings, Clarence, Thomas, Helen, Wayne, Ralph, RC, Janice and Anna. Ross served in the US Army during World War II as a Surgical Technician. After his service he met and married the love of his life Irene Hobbs and they were happily married for 65 years before she passed away in May of 2014.
Ross and Irene lived in Kansas while he attended a watch repair school in 1949 and returned to Duncan and worked in a jewelry shop until he decided to sell health and life insurance. After he got his license he opened Luttrell Insurance and continued to work there until his health began to fail in 2014. But he was "selling" insurance to the workers and staff at the Lawton Veterans Center until a couple years ago.
Ross was a practical joker and would always find an opportunity to play a joke on someone. He loved to fill his coffee cup up with torn pieces of paper and then accidently spill it on his victim!
Ross and Irene had three children; Don, Mark, Denise, four grandchildren and one great grandchild, Cheyenne.
He is survived by his children, Don Luttrell and his wife Gwendolyn, Mark Luttrell, Denise Barrick and her husband David, all of Duncan; his grandchildren, Jessie Luttrell, Jennifer Luttrell, Nicholas Barrick and Taylor Barrick; his great grandchild, Cheyenne Wright Luttrell ; his siblings, Clarence Luttrell and his wife Pauline; his sister Helen and her husband Jessie James all of Texas, and a brother Thomas Luttrell and his wife Gayle of Snyder, OK.
Ross loved to work in the yard especially growing tomatoes and to travel around the US, Canada, Mexico and England and Europe with his wife Irene. One thing for sure he never met a stranger!
The family wishes to thank the staff at the Lawton VA for all their care and comfort during his stay there.
Honorary Bearers will be Nicholas Barrick, Ray Myers, Ron Mulkey and Richard Glenn.
In lieu of flowers the family has asked that memorial donations be made to Alzheimer's Association Oklahoma 2448 E. 81st St., Suite 3000, Tulsa, OK 74137 or to the Lawton / Fort Sill Veterans Center 501 SE Flower Mound Rd, Lawton, OK 73501
