Mona G Smith
September 5, 1952 ~ May 21, 2019 (age 66)
Mona Gail Smith, 66, of Lawton, Oklahoma passed away peacefully Tuesday evening May 21, 2019 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma surrounded by her loving family. Funeral services will be held at 2:00pm Saturday May 25, 2019 at Don Grantham Funeral Home with Shonda Carter officiating. Interment will follow at Marlow Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home May 24 from 5:00 to 7:00pm. Mona Gail Smith was born September 5, 1952 in Amarillo, TX to Jack C. Allen and Ruby (Watts) Allen. Mona attended schools in Claude, TX and Waukomis, OK until she met Henry Allen Smith whom she referred to as ‘Deber’ or ‘Smitty.’ Mona and Smitty were married on May 24, 1969 and remained as such until his death in November 2001. During their marriage they had a son and 2 daughters. Although they moved to several different locations (Houma, LA; Demopolis, AL; Hutchinson, KS; Enid, OK; Allen, TX to name a few) due to Smitty’s career as a pipeline welder, most of their early family life was built in Pond Creek, OK and then later they settled in Duncan, OK. Mona worked in various positions including as a welder’s helper for her husband but her final career was made with Family Dollar Distribution in 1999. She stayed with the company for 18 years, retiring in September of 2017. She spent the last few years doing exactly what she said she was going to do- absolutely nothing but enjoy each day however she felt when she woke up. Throughout her adult life her children remember her as a giving person-always under the radar with as little fanfare as possible. She would donate help provide for individual families in need during the holidays. She would often help her kids’ friends when needed. She even provided window unit air conditioners to the Girl Scout meeting facility when her granddaughters were daisies and brownies. She enjoyed going to the casino and to bingo and then complaining how she never wins at anything. Mona passed down recipes as well as tricks-of-the-trade parenting skills to her children and grandchildren. Although not highly educated, Mona was very intelligent. Her daughters will always remember her as an amazing mother and friend.
Mona is survived by her two daughters, Lea Floods and her husband Jerry of Lawton, Oklahoma and Gia Sullivan and her husband Jason of Lawton; her brother, Kenny Heckman and his wife Debbie of Waukomis. Mona was lovingly known as “Momo” by her nine grandchildren: Dylon Sullivan, Kendall Sullivan, Maleena Sullivan, Gracelyn Sullivan, Justine Casillas and her husband Carlos, Jason Sullivan, Caitlynn Sullivan, and the twins Vallen and Gavin Sullivan. Five great-grandchildren- Kendon, Kenai, Evyn, Kaytlynn, and Tala called her Momo as well. Mona also had several beloved nieces and nephews and cousins. She is preceded in death by her husband Henry Allen Smith, son Johnny Allen Smith, father Jack C Allen, mother Ruby Jean Watts-Gasparek, step-dad Steve Gasparek, step-mom Wanda Allen, brothers Jack C. Allen Jr and Randy Heckman, sisters Jeanne Aduddel and Patsy Daily, nephew Jack C Allen III, father in law and mother in law Abner T Smith and Effie M Smith.
