Mike Howard Cummings
April 2, 1953 ~ April 20, 2015 (age 62)
Michael Howard Cummings departed this world on April 20, 2015 to join his Heavenly Father. Funeral services will be 1:00pm Saturday, April 25, 2015 at The Cornerstone Assembly of God, Duncan, OK with Pastor James Hatcher and Pastor Terry Bradley officiating. Interment will follow at Duncan Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Don Grantham Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday from 6:00 to 8:00pm. Michael Howard Cummings was born on April 02, 1953, in Hobbs, New Mexico to Dolores and Howard Cummings. Throughout his life Mike hung his hat in many places but always considered Duncan his home. His traveling led him to Venezuela, Germany, Spain, South Africa, Texas and Colorado. True to his character of loving family, after the loss of his mother, Mike made his permanent home in Duncan becoming a constant companion and friend to his father, Howard. Mike graduated from Pampa High School in 1971 and joined the Army as the Vietnam conflict was winding down. He then quickly followed in his father’s footsteps in the oil and gas industry, starting out as a roughneck and advancing to driller, tool pusher and on up to drilling consultant. The last five years he spent in the Oklahoma panhandle as an expert in directional drilling. Mike was truly a boy who loved his big toys. He was a collector of cars, boats, knives, coins and guns. He was a proud card carrying member of the NRA and stood strong on the protection of our 2nd Amendment rights. He never shied away from a heated discussion of politics and world events. He loved farming, ranching and being out in nature. Fishing poles were always hanging in his truck, prepared for the occasional largemouth bass. Mike is survived by daughters, Erica Storm and her husband Jay of Blanchard, OK, Jennifer Balentine of Duncan, OK, Chrystal Gregg of Moore, OK; his father, Howard Winston Cummings of Duncan, OK; sisters, Laura Madden and her husband Doug of Blanchard, OK, Terry Cummings of Newcastle; and six grandchildren, Chandler, Gracyn, and Blakely Storm, Cason Balentine, Morgan Gregg and Cammron Ellis. He was preceded in death by his mother, Dolores Helms Cummings; his daughter, Elecia Ellis and a granddaughter, Cadence Balentine. The family is comforted by Mike’s final gift of organ donation and asks that memorial donations in Mike’s honor be made to LifeShare Transplant Donor Services of Oklahoma 4705 NW Expressway Oklahoma City, OK 73132.
