Marion Earl Thurman, 86, of Duncan, OK went to be with his Lord Friday, February 02, 2018. He was at the Lawton-Fort Sill Veterans Center.
Funeral services will be held 9:00am Tuesday, February 6, 2018 at the Don Grantham Funeral Chapel, Duncan, with Ron Stough and Neal Thurman officiating. Interment will follow at 3:00pm at Claremore Cemetery, Claremore, OK. Services are under the direction of Don Grantham Funeral Home.
The family will visit with friends at the funeral home Monday, Feb. 5th 6:00 to 8:00pm
Marion Earl Thurman was born January 13, 1932 near Jay, Oklahoma to Clarence Matthew Thurman and Willie Jewell Calvert Thurman. On August 30, 1953, he married the former Ann Barrow and they had five children.
Mr. Thurman served for four years in the United States Navy and was a decorated veteran of the Korean War. He was a graduate of Oklahoma Military Academy in Claremore, Oklahoma. He received a Bachelor of Art in Biblical Studies from Oklahoma Christian College. He received a Bachelor of Education in English from the University of Oklahoma as well as a Secondary Teaching Certificate. He also received a Masters of Science degree in Library Science from the University of Oklahoma. He was a teacher with Fox High School for 22 years before he retired. His real passion was preaching the gospel of Jesus Christ. He served as a gospel preacher for over 35 years, preaching primarily in Oklahoma and also did mission work in Nebraska and Kansas. He had a passion for working with small congregations in real need for someone to give them a little help.
Mr. Thurman was preceded in death by his parents; two sons: Bryan Thurman and Matthew Thurman; nine sisters: Lucille Thurman, Agnes Paddick, Christina Thurman, Geniva Baird, Jane Briggs, Margaret Trail, Lavera Martin, Mary Jewell Cantrell and Eva Lee Hall; and one brother:Robert Thurman.
Mr. Thurman is survived by: his wife: Ann Thurman of Duncan, OK; one daughter: Connie Bailey and her husband, Larry of Oklahoma City, OK; two sons: Virgil Thurman and his wife, Mary of Piedmont, OK and Neal Thurman and his wife, Tracy of Whitehouse, TX; six grandchildren: Stacey Bailey of Oklahoma City, OK, Joseph Thurman and his wife, Jennifer of Knoxville, TN, Matthew Bailey of Oklahoma City, OK, Jake Thurman and his wife, Kristen of Oklahoma City, OK, Andrew Thurman of Whitehouse, TX and Spencer Thurman of Whitehouse, TX; one great-grandchild: Davis Thurman of Knoxville, TN
