John G. Shipman
May 14, 1915 ~ December 8, 2018 (age 103)
John G. Shipman, 103, of Duncan, Oklahoma passed away Sunday December 9, 2018. A Graveside Service will be held 2:00pm Thursday December 13, 2018 at the Rose Hill Cemetery in Chickasha with Lynn Mefford officiating. Services are under the direction of the Don Grantham Funeral Home. The family will visit with friends at the funeral home Wednesday December 12 from 5-7pm. John was born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma on May 14, 1915 to Jack and Hattie "Lambeth" Shipman. He was married to Patsy Ruth Duncan November 24, 1944 and she preceded him in death in October of 2014. John became interested in airplanes at a young age and did his first solo flight at the age of sixteen. He trained new pilot recruits prior to World War II. He was a pilot for Halliburton Services for 25 years. He enjoyed flying, working on or talking anything airplanes. He built a Bucker Jungmeister biplane at his home. In 1986 he donated it to the Air Space Museum in Oklahoma City. After retiring he and Patsy enjoyed traveling and later in life he enjoyed going to the Delta North Nutrition Center for lunch and shooting pool with his friends. He also liked playing a round of golf and even shot a hole in one. He is survived by his daughter, Karen McFarland of Duncan; one grandson, David McFarland of Colorado; eight great-grandchildren and one great great-grandchild. He was also preceded in death by his parents; one brother; and three sisters.
