Joan Marie Kuehn, 83, of Duncan, Oklahoma, loving wife, tremendous mother and true friend to everyone she knew, passed away quietly in her sleep after a brief illness, Wednesday March 13, 2019 at her home.
Funeral Services will be 10:00am Monday March 18, 2019 at the Don Grantham Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Billy Morgan officiating. Interment will follow at 12:30pm at Ft. Sill Post Cemetery, Ft. Sill/ Lawton, Oklahoma.
The family will visit with friends at the funeral home Sunday March 17 from 4:00-6:00pm
Joan was born in Fairview, Montana, the only child of Anna Marie and Albert Ludwig Noah. Joan was raised on a farm until she was nearly 19 when she married Ervin Lyle Kuehn. That was September 3, 1954.
Joan was a strong willed woman who had three children with Ervin while supporting him through 20 years of service in the United States Army. Often times she was left to raise the three boys alone while Ervin spent tours of duty in combat, twice in Korea and once in Vietnam. Each time he was away for more than a year.
They moved to Duncan in 1971 after Ervin retired at Fort Sill. They almost immediately became involved in the local VFW. Joan was a 44 year active member and served several terms as the local auxiliary president and held some state offices and she supported Ervin during his terms in various local, regional, and state officer positions. She also was an active volunteer for the Duncan Regional Hospital Auxiliary for approximately 25 years and active member of the Ladies of the Moose Lodge since 1999.
Joan was preceded in death by Ervin, her husband of 41 years.
Joan is survived by her three sons; Richard Ervin (Gail) of High Point, NC; Randy Allen (Ruby) of Duncan; and Ronald LeMar (Michelle) of Stillwater, OK. She is also survived by 6 grandchildren: Trenton, Michael, Lacey, Lance, Jeredon, and Ashleigh as well as 6 great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
