Glenn H Koonce
February 12, 1927 ~ June 21, 2018 (age 91)
Glenn Henry Koonce, age 91, passed away peacefully on June 21, 2018 in Duncan, Oklahoma. Glenn was born to Robert Koonce and Mary Davidson Koonce in their home in Scurry County, near Snyder, Texas, on February 12, 1927. He had eight siblings: Lindel, Charles “Pete”,Tommy Joe, Fay, Mary, Margret, Betty, and Mabrey. Glenn opened his first automobile repair business on his 16th birthday in Snyder, TX. He married his beautiful bride, Audrey Laverne “Fern” Griffith, of Duncan, Oklahoma on November 7, 1946, in Texas. The couple settled in Duncan, where Glenn opened and operated a successful automobile repair business. He gave his life to Christ in 1958. Glenn later went on to work as a diesel mechanic in Velma, Oklahoma, for many years. He retired at the young age of 80. Glenn and Fern had four children: Bobby Koonce, Karon Craig, Randy Koonce and Stevie Koonce. He was an amazing Papaw to seven grandchildren: Jennifer Borski, Stephanie Koonce, Brandon Craig, Shelby Brown, Nathan Urban, Eric Matheny, and Melissa Craig; and many adoring great grandchildren. He was known as Papaw to almost everyone he knew. Glenn is survived by his wife Fern of the home; his son Randy; his sister Fay Maddox of Texas; his son-in-law Ronald Craig and daughter-in-law Lynda Koonce, both of Duncan; his grandchildren, great grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews; and many other family members who loved him dearly. Glenn loved to work on things, tell stories about his life, tinker, and always stayed busy, especially at his “Big 10” acreage in Duncan, and his favorite part of mealtime was dessert. His sweet, gentle spirit will be missed by all who knew him. We rejoice for his return to his Heavenly home where his children: Bobby, Karon, and Stevie; grandson, Bobby Brian and great grandson, Miles, greeted him with open arms. A family memorial dinner will be held at First Christian Church in Duncan. Cremation arrangements were provided by Don Grantham Funeral Home.
