Gladys Marie (Roberts) Smith went to rest in her Savior’s arms on Saturday December 14, 2019 at the age of 98 years, 11 months and 15 days.
Gladys Marie Roberts was born to John Richard “Dick” Roberts and Sarah Belle (Peters) Roberts on December 29, 1920 In Faxon, Ok.
Gladys grew up and went to school in Faxon, where she met and later married Carl Elbert “Shorty” Smith. They married on December 17, 1940 in Chattanooga, Oklahoma and were married almost 62 years. After Mr. Smith established his career with Sunray D-X Oil Company as a gauger, the family lived in several different towns and cities in Oklahoma including, Duncan, Bristow, Beggs, Hominy, Wewoka and Ada. After retirement, Carl and Gladys returned to Duncan to live and were faithful members of Western Heights Baptist Church. She was always very active in her local church and served others throughout her life wherever she lived, in her church and community.
After her beloved husband, Carl passed away in 2002, Gladys continued to live in their home in Duncan for several more years and then in 2008 she moved to an independent living facility in Edmond, Oklahoma to be closer to her sons and their families.
Gladys was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great grandmother, aunt and sister. She is survived by her sons, Carl Randall Smith of Wichita, Ks, Timothy Dee and Patricia Smith, of Arcadia, OK and Michael Lee and Sheila Smith of Edmond, OK.; seven grandchildren, Nikki Jo Reach, of Wichita, Ks., Shane Smith of Waco, Tx., Kandis Bradford of Fort Smith, Ark., Khury Hall of Choctaw, OK., Kade Smith of Houston, Tx., Daniel Smith of Edmond, OK and Rachel Smith of Louisville, Ky.; nine great-grandchildren, Jacob Smith of Austin, Tx., Joshua Smith of Dallas, Tx. and Jackson Smith of Waco, Tx., Kati Reach of Wichita, Ks., Isaac Bradford of Fort Smith, Ark., Evie Grace, Jude, Ruby Jane, and Beck Hall, of Choctaw, OK. One great-great granddaughter, Scout Smith of Dallas, Tx.; one sister, Wanda Martens, Lawton, OK and one brother, John G. Roberts, Dallas, Tx. She is also survived by a host of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Carl “Shorty” Smith, a daughter-in-law, Lynda Kaye Smith, a brother, Richard Keith Roberts, and a sister, Cora Belle Capshaw as well as an infant brother, George Roberts.
Funeral Services will be held at Don Grantham Funeral Home, Duncan, OK on Monday December 23, 2019 at 1:00 pm. Graveside services and burial will be at the Faxon Cemetery following funeral services. Honorary Pall Bearers are her grandsons.
