Services are under the direction of Don Grantham Funeral Home, Duncan, Oklahoma. The family will visit with friends at the funeral home Sunday 2:00 to 4:00pm Danny was born on Aug. 3, 1953 at the Lindley Hospital in Duncan, Oklahoma. He was the fourth child and the baby boy to Hugh Junior Cowan and Ethel Jones Cowan of Velma, Oklahoma. Survivors include his loving children and their spouses: JoAnn Ille and husband Jason of Velma, Krissie Gordon and husband Andy of Comanche, Oklahoma and Chad Cowan and wife Jenny also of Velma; his living siblings, Mickey Cowan of Ada and Dianna (Sissie) Cowan of Velma; his six grandchildren whom he adored: Strait and Shain Ille of Velma, Dylan and Colt Gordon of Comanche and Gracie and Sadie Cowan of Velma. Danny is also survived by five cousins and numerous other relations and friends. Danny attended Velma-Alma High School, graduating in May of 1971. As a Comet he was a starter on the football team and was very active in the FFA. Danny then graduated from Murray State College in 1973 and Oklahoma State University in 1977 with a degree in Agriculture Education. He worked in the oilfield for Skelly Oil, Getty Oil, TXO and Marathon Oil Company until his retirement in 2013. Danny loved his children. He spent countless hours watching JoAnn and Chad play basketball and Krissie cheerlead. Later he would delight in watching his grandchildren play football, basketball, baseball, softball, run track and cheerlead. He enjoyed riding dirt bikes and toured the United States with friends including his father on motorcycles. But other than his family, Danny was defined by his love of being a cowboy. His childhood heroes were the Lone Ranger, the Cisco Kid and Roy Rogers. He was an outstanding horseman and could still vault onto the back of his horse until late into his forties. A neighbor gave him a horse that he was going to destroy and Danny nursed him back to health. He was team roper and loved to watch his grandsons, Dylan and Colt, who are on the Pro Rodeo Circuit. Danny loved horses, cows and certain people. He was brutally honest and as they would say - "He was a good dude to ride the river with." We pray he receives the rest he so richly deserved. Pallbearers for his service will be: Norman Condit, Mickey Pruitt, Eddie Leonhart, Phillip Fisher, Rodney Eason, David Stone, Terry Jack Johnson and Michael Pennington. Honorary Bearers are: Billy Earl Thacker, Randall Taylor, Mike Adcox, Dylan Gordon, Colt Gordon, Strait Ille, Gracie Cowan, Shain Ille and Sadie Cowan.
