Charles was born in Duncan on April 4, 1938 to Henry Perry Bernard and Ada Loraine Hawes.
As a child in a large family, they moved often, living wherever Henry could find work and at a young age, Charles joined his father working in the oil field.
He met the love of his life, DeaLoris Sloan at the age of 18, and on August 25, 1956, they were married in Duncan, Oklahoma. They soon had two sons and shortly thereafter experienced a glorious conversion to salvation. This set them on a lifelong journey from which through ups and downs and many hardships they never wavered. Charles had a reputation as a servant of the Lord, preacher of the gospel and man of unflinching courage. Although he was a man of many talents including roofing, carpentry, drilling water wells, farming, gardening and many others, his greatest calling was as pastor of the Route 4 Church of God where he served for over 50 years. Over the course of his ministry, he directly or indirectly touched and influenced hundreds of people, often sharing a word or song wherever he met someone in need.
He is survived by his brothers Lewis Bernard of Fairfax, Oklahoma, Ronnie Bernard of Duncan, Oklahoma, sisters Mancy Massey of Burleson, Texas, Veta Howard also of Duncan, and Cecile Howard of Ada Oklahoma; children Roger and Pamela Bernard of Duncan, Steven and Bobbie Bernard of Boyd, Texas, Linda Bernard of Duncan, Glen and Leslie Bernard of Duncan, Phillip and Norma Bernard of Comanche, Oklahoma and Andrew and Nikki Bernard of Duncan; 37 grandchildren, 31 Great grandchildren and a host of friends and relatives.
