Bernice F. Laquey, 84, joined her husband and Savior on Monday, February 3, 2020. She was born on April 8, 1935 in Minden, Louisiana to Myrtise Ramsey and Robert I. Hines. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, February 15, 2020 at the Grantham Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Richard Allen officiating and assisted by Minister Traci Stephens. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Gardens in Duncan under the care of Don Grantham Funeral Home. No visitation has been set.
Bernice married Joe C. Laquey on August 24, 1956 and resided most of their lives in and around the Duncan area. He preceded her in death in May 1981. They have a son, Terry Joe Laquey. She attended schools at Tucker schools and graduated from Comanche High School. One of her favorite activities was to attend the Tucker school reunion. She kept in contact for many years with her childhood friends and especially Nila Michalicka. Bernice also had life-long friends, Jo Auld and Nadine Nix who were very dear to her.
She began working as an administrative assistant for Halliburton Oilwell Cementing Company at the age of 18 years. She later began working as an executive administrative assistant for Skelly, Getty and then to retire with Texaco Chevron. She prided herself with typing 120 words a minute. She also operated and owned her own business raising and selling parakeets to pet stores.
Gardening flowers and raising vegetable gardens were some of her favorite activities. She loved Spring flowers and flower arranging for church. Her favorite color was pink. She had many friends and was a member of Countryside Freewill Baptist Church in Velma.
Surviving her are her son, Terry Joe of Velma, brother Homer Hines of Corpus Cristi, Texas, grandson’s Kevin and Cody Laquey of Wichita, Kansas; brother in law, Dr. Ronny M Laquey and his wife Virginia; sisters in law, Pat Stephens and Rowena Laquey and many nieces and nephews. Preceded her in death are her parents, husband, sister Helen Stroud and brother Virgil W. Hines. The family would like to say a special thank you to the caring staff of Country Club Care and Rehabilitation Center, special friends Jo Auld and Nadine Nix.
