A beautiful and gracious lady is no longer with us. Audrey Glennes Jenkins was born to Audrey G. and Glenn Edgar Dooley on February 26, 1928, in Duncan, Oklahoma, and passed away on October 12, 2018. She was a graduate of Duncan High School in 1946 and attended The University of Oklahoma. She met her husband to be, Charles T. Jenkins, on a blind date and was married in Henrietta, Texas, on June 10, 1949. The newlyweds took up residence at Skelly Camp near Velma, Oklahoma, where Charles worked as a young geologist. Their oldest child, Gay Elaine Jenkins, now Cox (husband, Robert L. Cox Jr.) was born in Duncan. The young family lived in Wichita Falls, Texas, when Charles was recalled to the Air Force and later in Oklahoma City where he was a Geologist for Skelly Oil Company. The second child, Sherry Leigh Jenkins, now Gossett (husband, William Gossett) was born in Oklahoma City.
After returning to Duncan where Charles began his career as an Independent Geologist, three additional children were born, Charles T. Jenkins, Jr., Suzanne Marie Jenkins, now Shields (husband, John F. Shields) and Daphne Jane Jenkins, now Goodson (husband, Jerry Goodson). Glennes was the consummate Mother and Homemaker. She was involved with all of her children’s activities, from Cheerleading, Drill Team, Ballet, Golf and at the same time presided over an immaculate household.
Glennes was active in Chapter EE, PEO, Hestian Club, Shakespeare Club and was a member of The First United Methodist Church of Duncan. She especially enjoyed her “Dinner Bridge Club” with her many Duncan friends. In addition to her children’s myriad activities, she enjoyed OU Football and Basketball and was a long-time ticket holder for both. She was an Oklahoma City Thunder fan and was always glued to the TV during PGA Golf Tournaments. Glennes and Charles traveled throughout the world but were most happy when they vacationed in Hilton Head, South Carolina, where the entire family spent many memorable trips.
She was preceded in death by her Father and Mother, her husband, Charles T. Jenkins, Jan Dooley Herbst, her sister, and Albert Russell, her step-father. She is survived by her five children, and their spouses, ten grandchildren; Adam Robert Cox (and wife Melanie), Christopher Lewis Cox (and wife Kerry), Jeremy Charles Gossett, Laura Leigh Stockton (and husband Trent), Kyle Andrew Gossett, John Lawrence Shields, Charles Austin Shields, Henry Fraser Shields, Audrey Marie Goodson and Graham Tarleton Goodson and four great grandchildren; Cora Cox, Duncan Robert Cox, Caroline Kathryn Cox and George Keaton Lewis Cox. Also surviving is her brother, Dr. Robert T. Dooley (wife Jean) and her sister, Mary Roberson (husband, Carlos). Special thanks are to be given to her caregivers, Isabel, Rosa, Lupe and Margaret.
