Alma Jean Brinegar, 88, of Cookson, Oklahoma and longtime resident of Duncan, Oklahoma passed away peacefully at her home in Cookson, Oklahoma on Monday, March 2, 2020. Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 6 at 1:30 PM at New Hope Baptist Church West with Rev. Randy Southerland officiating. Interment will follow at Fairlawn Cemetery in Comanche, Oklahoma under the care of Don Grantham Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM Thursday at the funeral home.
Alma was born April 28, 1931 in Comanche, Oklahoma to Bernard and Jewel Wood. She attended school around and in Duncan area where she lived most of her life. Alma married Perry “Pete’ Brinegar April 28, 1947 and spent their time in the Duncan area. He preceded her in death on October 3, 2008.
Alma worked for Montgomery Ward in Duncan for over fifteen years as a sales manager and was
co-owner of B&B meat processing. She was very active with the Duncan Fire Department Women’s Auxiliary and the Oklahoma State Firefighters Women’s organization. She was very involved with the Duncan Moose Lodge 2202 and Women of the Moose as Jr. Region Women of the Moose, College of Regents and Academy of Friendship. She loved cooking, sewing, Dancing, Gardening (green thumb), Hunting, Golfing, fishing and was an artist and loved painting pictures.
She was preceded in death by parents, her husband of 61 years Perry “Pete” Brinegar, her brother Donald Wood, and her granddaughter Teeniesa Jean Brake. She is survived by her brother Bill “Buck” Wood and his wife Yvonne of Lawton, her daughters, Linda Brinegar of Marlow, Tonya Thompson and her husband David of Cookson, Oklahoma, her son, Perry J. Brinegar Jr and his wife Ronni of Duncan. She is survived by her eight grandchildren, Sammy James Brake, Chad Miller, Lynn Miller, Brent Miller, Chris Thompson, Bucky Thompson, Braylin Arrington, Mindy Howton, twenty one great grandchildren and twelve great-great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was loved and admired by her family and friends. Pallbearers will be Sammy Brake, Lynn Miller, Shea Howton, Chris Tompson, Heath Wood and Braylin Arrington. Honorary pallbearers will be, Michael Fannie, Jason Quarles, Darrell Wood, Clint Phillips, Scott Hawkins, and Josiah Harwell.
