Wayne was born August 23, 1931 at Carney, Oklahoma to Lemual B. and Tressie (Starling) Flanigan. He graduated from high school and chose to serve his country by enlisting in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict.
He was self-employed as a roofing contractor for many years in Duncan and a member of the Masonic Lodge.
FLANIGAN!! That's what his friends called him. He was one of a kind. Like Billy the Kid and Sundance.
When everybody else was READING stories...he WAS the story. And oh what a Dancer he was. He had rhythm. He could jitterbug with the best of them. He had style. Taught all his girls his style of dancing. True gentleman. An icon. First class in everything, everyday of his life.
He loved red. He loved his trucks. He loved life. One of his biggest accomplishments in life was his devotion to all of his customers in Duncan and in Oklahoma. He loved his wife Fahn. And most importantly, was his deep love and devotion to his kids.
He never turned anyone down. People just loved him. He teased and teased until he could no longer speak. You may not have met him personally, but everyone knew him. A Duncan legend. You could hardly go around the block without noticing some type of wonderful Flanigan flare.
If someone were to tape his stories, it would be a treasure. He was such a story teller...and he lived them.
He was ornery about his Sooner football. He wanted everyone happy. When he walked into a room, people smiled. He made everyone smile. He lit up the room. Even in his last days, he kept a positive attitude. He would walk in like he owned the place.
He was an innovator. He always thought outside the box, because the box was just never big enough. He did everything to the max. The red had to be redder. The roses bigger. The grass greener.
He loved roofs. So much so, at age 70, he climbed to the top of the Duomo in Milan just because he wanted to see the top of that magnificent marble roof.
When asked, "How ya doin"? The answer was ALWAYS, "GOOOOOD". No matter how much he was suffering. And at the end of his life, when he was asked how things are going, he answered: "PERFECT."
Wayne married Fahn C. Turner on November 16, 2000 at Decatur, Texas.
He is survived by his wife, Fahn Flanigan, of the home; three daughters, Patricia Hermann and husband, Peter of Basel, Switzerland, Linda Boswell and husband, Frank of Columbia, Tenn., and Kellie Kennedy and husband, Rob of Nacogdoches, Texas; three brothers, Don Flanigan and wife Pat of Livermore, Calif., Burl Flanigan and wife Sharon of Clements, Calif. and L.B. Flanigan and wife Marie of Purcell, Oklahoma; 12 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; and many other loving family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Randy Lindsay; and a brother, Bill (Wilbern) Flanigan.
Pallbearers will be Terry Garrett, L.E. Jones, Brent Bostick, Mark Redden, David Bowden and Jim Kee.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
