Twila was born in Paul’s Valley Oklahoma, daughter of Oscar and Goldie Parks. She grew up and attended school in the Duncan area, graduating from Duncan High School ahead of her class. Twila lost her mother at the age of 8.
She joined The United States Army and was one of the last group of WAC. She was offered a chance to be stationed at any base of her choosing due to her high classification and when she finished training, she chose Ft. Sill to be close to home. Upon exiting the military, Twila met and married James Hayes. They would eventually make their home in the Duncan area before moving all over the state of Oklahoma. True “Okies” she called it.
Twila worked in the medical field until a severe car accident in 1972. Due to her injuries she was forced to find a less demanding occupation. Her favorite job was being a wife and mother, grandmother and great grandmother.
Twila spent most of her time gardening, cooking, canning, sewing, going to garage sales and reading until her body and health wouldn’t allow it. She had suffered many injuries and ailments. She was our Timex. “She took a licking, and kept on ticking.”
