Robert Joseph Conway, 67 of Duncan, Oklahoma died on Friday, August 11, 2017.
Prayer service will be at 6:30pm on Friday, August 18, at Don Grantham Funeral Home. Requiem High Mass will be at 9:30am on Saturday, Aug. 19 at St. Michael’s Chapel in Oklahoma City. There will be a rosary and a viewing at 9:00am preceding the Mass. Graveside service with full military honors will be provided by the Naval Honor Guard at ~1:00pm Saturday at Duncan Cemetery.
Robert was born in Fletcher, OK on November 5, 1949 to Tim and Mary Ann Conway. He graduated from Duncan High School in 1967 prior to joining the Navy Reserves. He was in the Naval Reserves for two years while attending college before going into active duty in 1969. He worked in Aviation Electronics and achieved the rank of Chief Petty Officer (E7) before retiring from the Navy in 1989.
Following military retirement, he returned to Duncan to help his Dad with the Conway Service business. He continued to operate the business for another nine years after his Dad died in Sep 2007; during this time, he helped take care of his Mom until she died in May 2017.
Outside the family business, he was an active member of the Chisholm Trial Amateur Radio Club where he served as secretary for many years. He enjoyed communications with Ham Radio where he acquired an Extra Class license for KA0VAN, he was a ARRL member and a qualified instructor and tester for HAM radio. With his electronics expertise, he was instrumental in maintaining equipment and setting up APRS used in the Dehydrator; other activities included Founders Data, Field Day, and Christmas Parades.
Robert was also active in the Southwest Oklahoma Railroad Association for the last few years since he had an interest in model trains from the time he was a young boy. He enjoyed visiting with his friends and helping others fix problems with electronics.
He was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Bethany OK.
Survivors include his brother, Arnold Conway of Garland, TX; two sisters: Carol Conway of Duncan and Arlene Eschmann of Broken Arrow with her husband Stan Eschmann; two nephews, Mark of San Antonio, TX and John of Pensacola, FL; one niece, Laura of Oklahoma City, OK.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Tim and Mary Ann Conway.
Pall bearers will be Mark and John Eschmann, Harvey Jacobi, Brett Wood, Jerry Goodson, and Roman Petty. Honorary pall bearers will be Stan Eschmann and Bill Bunn.
