The family will visit with friends at the funeral home Thursday June 1st from 5:00-7:00pm.
Peggy Jo Lee was born in Missouri in 1936 to Victor and Gladys Lee. She moved to Oklahoma and met Robert Lee Stephenson. They fell in love and were married March 21, 1953. Peggy was 16 and Bob was 18. Together they had two children, Roger Lee and Debra Elaine. Bob and Peg were very happily married 50 years. Of course there were bumps in the road along the way but they never stopped loving each other.
Peggy was very accomplished as an artist with her oil painting and as an author and poet. Many of her poems have been published along with any of her short stories. She finished a book of her life that when published could be one of the greatest love stories ever told.
Peggy loved her four grandchildren. Three of which are beautiful girls, Joey Blackburn, Rebecca Kramer and Rachel Lynn Stephenson and a grandson, Ashley Matheny. She was blessed with four great-grandsons and one beautiful great-granddaughter. Peggy also adopted Kimmy and Gio as her grandchildren and was an "adopted grandma" for kids at Comanche schools fifth grade. She loved all the children.
Other than her career as an artist and author, Peggy had few jobs. Back in the day she was a switchboard operator for the telephone office and she really enjoyed her job with Bob for Corps of Engineers at Fort Supply Lake. The job she loved most was being Mrs. Robert Lee Stephenson.
She did lots of volunteer work. When Roger was young she was a den mother for the cub scouts troop and she taught swimming lessons for years for the Red Cross.
For enjoyment Peggy was an expert seamstress and pattern maker and loved to crochet. In later years she learned to play dulcimer.
Peggy loved God. She was a member of Prairie Hill Church of Christ. She taught Sunday school classes and helped kids get ready for bible bowl.
She was always happy and so Bob would tell her "she woke up in a new world every day!"
She loved family and was a wonderful care giver. When Roger wrecked his motorcycle as a kid, she never left his side for months while he was in the hospital. She never left Bobs side when he was ill.
Above all she was a good daughter, wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She did her best on this earth and she loved and was loved by all that knew her. She will be missed. But we should rejoice that she is with Jesus Christ our Lord God. Be happy that her suffering on this earth is over and that she will live forever in the house of the Lord, in that perfect body without ailments.
Survivors include her children, Roger Stephenson and Debra Matheny both of Comanche; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and many other family members, adopted family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Victor and Gladys Lee; her husband, Bob Stephenson; and two brothers, Bill Lee and Bob Lee.
